The Wonders of Wisconsin Engineering is a special award program aimed at highlighting achievements in Wisconsin engineering over the past 50 years. An impressive 43 entries were submitted.
“This competition really showcased the amazing and significant things engineers and the engineering industry have accomplished in Wisconsin during the past five decades,” said Philip Budde, PE, 2007 ACEC WI President and President/Chief Operating Officer of Strand Associates, Inc.
The judges had the difficult task of evaluating an array of diverse entries and selecting eight “Best of Category” and five “Best of Region” winners. The categories were structural systems – bridges, structural systems - buildings, surveying and mapping technology, environmental, water and wastewater, water resources, transportation, and special projects. Entries were also judged by their location in regions (as defined by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation).
Judging focused on how these projects have made Wisconsin a better place to live and work in the past 50 years. Specific considerations included the health, safety, and economic impact of these projects on Wisconsin residents as well as their use of innovative engineering techniques or applications.
