Government Affairs 101 for the Class of 2020

Posted By: Kelly Veit ACEC WI News,

The Leadership Institute Class in 2020 was in Madison this week its fifth session – Government Affairs 101.

ACEC WI President Chris Klein led the session walking the Class of 2020 through the legislative process. An area of focus was the importance of issue advocacy and ACEC Wisconsin’s legislative priorities. The class spent time in the Capitol and observed an Assembly Floor Session.

The Board of Directors joined the Class of 2020 for networking and dinner. It was a great chance to connect with the group and encourage further involvement in the organization.

To introduce the Class of 2020 to various facets of ACEC Wisconsin, each accountability partner group reported on our state committees and areas of involvement on the National level. Several members of the Class of 2020 were interested in joining committees. We’re looking forward to welcoming some new committee members!

This session also included joining other ACEC Wisconsin members at Legislative Day. In addition to hearing from our great line-up of speakers, the Class of 2020 made visits to their elected officials. It was a great opportunity to put our lesson in government affairs in action. For many, it was the first-time meeting with their legislators.

The call for applicants for the Leadership Institute Class of 2021 will open this spring. Watch for details or contact Kelly Veit with any questions.
