Entering Firm: Strand Associates Inc.
Client: City of Kenosha

The 22nd Avenue corridor in the City of Kenosha had long suffered from aging infrastructure, heavy traffic, and the pressures of continued residential and commercial growth. Following civil unrest in 2020, the corridor required physical improvements and renewed public confidence. When design efforts resumed, engineers took on a crucial role: reshaping earlier concepts into practical, budget-conscious solutions that reflected the community’s evolving needs.

Engineers provided a community with infrastructure that connects and supports recovery after tragedy.

Strand Associates transformed a historically challenged and densely developed area into a safer, more functional, and community-focused space. Engineering leadership guided the revitalized design, from reconfiguring traffic lanes and improving intersection operations to coordinating complex utility considerations. Engineers also developed a carefully planned traffic-control and pedestrian-access strategy to maintain business and residential access throughout construction. Durable concrete pavement upgraded signal systems, enhanced LED lighting, added on-street parking, and pedestrian-friendly streetscaping create a more welcoming environment to visitors and citizens alike.

Through technical expertise, responsiveness, and thoughtful engagement, Strand delivered a safer, more efficient, and visually revitalized corridor. The project stands as a testament to the essential role engineering plays in restoring infrastructure, supporting recovery, and strengthening community identity.
