Data Center 101
Speaker: Chris Brown, HDR
This presentation will offer a 101-level understanding of data centers, explaining their definition and essential role. It will delve into the factors fueling their increasing demand and outline key operational requirements, including fiber connectivity, power and water consumption, and backup power requirements. Furthermore, the presentation will explore the challenges and adaptations of the electrical grid in response to data center growth, as well as what the industry is doing to support the grid now and into the future.

About the Speaker
With over 27 years of utility and data center industry engineering and construction experience, Chris understands the complexities of delivering projects from conceptual due diligence and planning through design and construction completion. His passion lies with client relations and program development and management. Chris has led data center due diligence, campus planning, substation, high voltage switchyard, off site public improvement projects, and more in support of data center campus development. He’s led utility and data center programs and large infrastructure projects from conceptual planning stage through each stage of development through to completion across the US. He fosters collaboration and communication through continuous client and consultant team interaction with clear expectations as the keys to success. Throughout his years he has walked the sites, been through due diligence, master planning, project design, and delivered projects through the procurement process into construction. He is a strategic and conceptual thinker who exercises sound technical, analytical and management skills in successfully delivering multi-million-dollar projects and portfolios. Recognized as a change agent, skilled leader and motivator, Chris is a strong interpersonal and group communicator who can deliver clear and concise results.
