Entering Firm: Civiltech Engineering Inc.
Client: City of Milwaukee

In response to several recent fatal crashes and a rise in reckless driving, the City of Milwaukee prioritized two major transit corridors for pedestrian-focused safety improvements. The project targeted vital routes experiencing significant safety, accessibility, and operational challenges for pedestrians and transit users.

Engineers improved transit access, making it safer, easier, and more inviting for users.

Civiltech shaped the project from the outset with robust public engagement. Input on safety concerns, crossing difficulties, and transit accessibility directly informed design solutions that enhanced safety while supporting city bus needs. The team designed strategically placed curb extensions, improved bus signage, high-visibility crosswalks, relocated bus stops, and upgraded ADA-compliant facilities These improvements combine to create safer, more intuitive pedestrian environments and more efficient transit access.

Improved transit access encourages more people to take the bus, a key goal for the client. Final plans, specifications, and estimates ensured the project met federal and state requirements. The team engineered an array of elements that add up to make a big difference. The team delivered meaningful, community-driven safety improvements along two of Milwaukee’s most active transit corridors.
