Leadership Institute Class of 2026 Concludes with Focus on Balance

Posted By: Kelly Veit ACEC WI News,

The ACEC Wisconsin Leadership Institute Class of 2026 wrapped up its final session on April 16–17 in Beloit, bringing the program full circle with a thoughtful and timely focus on Work/Life Balance for an Effective Leader. The session combined practical strategies, candid conversations, and meaningful reflection as participants prepared to step forward as the next generation of industry leaders.

The session opened with a focus on personal well-being, as Brian Udermann, PhD, led a discussion on improving health to support overall balance. From there, Beth Ridley of Ridley Consulting Group guided participants through practical approaches to supporting employee mental health.

A highlight of the session was the work/life balance panel, featuring volunteer leaders from across the industry who generously shared their time, perspective, and real-world experiences. Panelists Disa Wahlstrand (Ayres), Stephanie Thomsen (JT Engineering), Harry Tran (EMCS), and Tyler Tkachuk (Jacobs) offered candid insights into navigating the demands of leadership while maintaining personal and professional balance.

The discussion reinforced that balance is not a fixed destination, but an ongoing practice requiring intentionality and adaptability.

Sean Spromberg (MSA) led a module on situational leadership and delegation reinforced the importance of trust, communication, and empowering teams. The program concluded with a final session led by Jason Kotecki, tying together the themes of leadership, creativity, and balance.

This final session marked not just the end of a program, but the beginning of what’s next for these emerging leaders. We look forward to celebrating the Leadership Institute Class of 2026 at their official graduation during the Awards Banquet on April 24.

Thank You Jan Zander

A constant throughout the Leadership Institute series is the Class Advisor. Jan Zander (Ayres) served as Class Advisor for the Class of 2026 and Class of 2025. Jan’s guidance throughout the program played a vital role in shaping the experience, offering the real-world perspective, fostering connection among participants, and challenging the class to grow both professionally and personally. He brought immense value and perspective to the series and left a lasting impact on 48 of Wisconsin’s rising stars. Thank you, Jan!
