Entering Firm: CORRE Inc.
Client: Wisconsin Department of Transportation
The state highway gateway to Westby had become increasingly congested and unsafe, with issues overflowing onto the city’s main street through downtown. Tight urban constraints, challenging soils, significant grade changes, and the need to maintain reliable access to homes and businesses throughout construction added to the project’s complexity.
Engineers managed the construction with individualized solutions to keep access to local businesses.
Working closely with the client and City of Westby, CORRE managed all construction of this complex project. Temporary access accommodations were moved frequently to ensure businesses remained reachable and pedestrians stayed safe. Grade transitions between stages demanded creative reconfiguration, including temporary lanes designed to protect the traveling public. The team worked to sequence construction in a way that minimized disruptions, even providing individualized access solutions when necessary. Residents embraced the project with characteristic pride, promoting it with a construction gnome logo to support local businesses.
The project demonstrates how thoughtful construction management and community partnership can successfully transform a critical corridor. United by a shared vision, the team delivered a project that exceeded expectations.
